While The Sawdoctors made the Joyce Country famous with its dedicated ‘Ceili Band’ hit song, a now annual and unique fund-raising event is making the headlines these days. It’s the Joyce Country Truck Run & Lights Show, coming up this weekend in the heart of the region.
“After such a successful occasion last year where we had 90 plus decorated trucks taking the drive in convoy from Maam Cross to Clonbur in County Galway, we are running the event again this year on Saturday 10 December at 5pm in aid of two new charities: the Corrib Mask Search & Rescue and the Galway Branch of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland,” explained Paddy Rock on behalf of the organisers.
The highly illuminated trucks will gather before 5pm at Maam Cross Mart, and travel over to Cornamona and then onto Clonbur via ECC Teo Timber Mill factory. We expect even more and more spectators in their cars lining the route and when the trucks arrive in Clonbur, a warm welcome awaits, with music and lots of cheer with Santa Claus himself joining us,” added Paddy.
This year the judging for the best decorated truck cab will be done before the start at Maam Cross and the finalists will be asked to stay on in Clonbur Village for the official announcement of the top 5 prize winners.
Participants can enter via email or by phone on the numbers below. A €50 registration fee is required for each truck and each entry will get a goodie bag.
There is also an iDonate page for trucks to pay their entry fee if they wish, just make sure to enter the company name or drivers name in the message box.
