Major Unforeseen Disruptions Becomes Common Pain Point For Logistics in the US

A recent survey by TechCo has revealed the most common pain points logistic businesses are facing in America. While the long standing issue of workforce shortages tops the list, the thrid biggest challenge was major unforeseen disruptions.

Most significant challenges ranked:

  • Workforce shortages – 24%

  • Rising diesel prices – 20%

  • Major unforeseen disruptions – 19%

  • Government regulations – 15%

  • Problems with working conditions – 11%

This highlights a growing concern within the industry about the increasing frequency and severity of events that fall outside of traditional risk management frameworks.

A spike in unpredictable weather in recent years has made tornadoes, extreme heat and flash flooding more common. Businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to anticipate and prepare for such events.

These disruptions often lead to financial losses, operational delays, and potentially if unable to deliver on services, damage to a company’s reputation. The increasing frequency of unexpected events may lead to logistics firms investing more heavily in real-time monitoring software to support ground staff.

TechCo’s Jack Turner, stated: “It’s hard to plan for something that catches you off guard, and that’s exactly what the logistics industry has found, as shown in our latest research. Disruptions such as recent extreme weather in the US have proved a major challenge for the industry, with severe knock on effects.

While the biggest pain point in the industry is the long standing issue of workforce shortages, firms would be wise not to overlook the significant impact of weather and infrastructure failure.”
