Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, the official motoring partner of the National Ploughing Championships for the ninth consecutive year, returned to this year’s event with some impressive Irish premieres, most notably the Transporter 6.1 and the new Crafter-based Grand California.
Taking place in Ballintrane, Fenagh, County Carlow this week, the National Ploughing Championships, attracts almost a quarter of a million visitors each year. Two versions of the new Transporter 6.1 models were on display.
This latest version of the Transporter features a striking new design, and comes with new technology including a completely redesigned instrument panel and for the first time, with fully digital instruments: the Digital Cockpit (passenger variants only). There is a new electro-mechanical power steering, enabling the use of active steering assistance systems, which will allow the use of technology such as Lane Assist, Park Assist and Trailer Assist. Every model in the Transporter range makes an ideal towing vehicle, with a towing capacity of up to 2,500kg. The Transporter 6.1 also now gains the added benefits of the ‘We Connect’ online connectivity, which opens up a whole new spectrum of web-based services and functions.
Spectators were also treated to the all-new Volkswagen Grand California, an addition to the California range that offers even more space and creature comforts. The ever-popular Caddy, the Crafter, the Amarok, the Shuttle, the Caddy Life and California were also displayed.
Commenting at its presence in Carlow, Kim Kilduff, Head of Sales & Marketing for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in Ireland said: “It goes without saying that we are strong supporters of the Ploughing Championships and are really excited about this year’s event as it gives us a chance to debut our exciting new product line-up.”
