The Irish division of the Rhenus Group has signed an agreement to acquire Avant Air & Sea, subject to CCPC consent, as part of its expansion plans for Ireland. Avant Air & Sea specialises in temperature-controlled and pharmaceutical shipments as well as hazardous consignments.

Avant Air & Sea, which has its headquarters in Dublin, is a leading logistics company on the island and has been providing sea and air freight services and cross-border services for imports and exports since 1990. In addition to its headquarters in Ireland, Avant Air & Sea operates internationally with branches in Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The company provides weekly consolidation and groupage freight services from China, the USA and other Asian and Oceanic countries of origin. Its portfolio of services includes consolidation, express, hand-carry and AOG services for air freight (particularly spare parts for aircraft that are urgently required). Road haulage and cargo transportation, consolidation, customs services, document preparation and insurance are all part of its services for sea freight.

Avant Air & Sea is an Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) and is also certified according to the Dangerous Goods (DG) and Good Distribution Practice (GDP) guidelines published by IATA. In future, the company will operate within the Rhenus Group under the name Avant Rhenus. The Rhenus-Group’s presence in Ireland dates back more than 30 years, when it was part of Hamann International, which was integrated into the Rhenus-Group in 2006.

“We’ve found a customer-oriented partner in the Rhenus Group and it will enable us to continue developing our services for our existing and future customers due to its global network and its comprehensive expertise,” explained David Warren, Managing Director of Avant Air & Sea.

“Avant Air & Sea is a company with a strong focus on customer relations as well as providing important services for the air and sea freight sector and it will make an important contribution to the ongoing growth of the Rhenus Group. We’re delighted to be able to continue developing the Rhenus business activities in Ireland together with Avant,” added Jörn Schmersahl, Managing Director of Rhenus Air & Ocean Europe.

The Rhenus Group is a global logistics services provider with an annual turnover of €4.8 billion. Rhenus has business sites at 610 locations worldwide and employs 29,000 people.
