The organisation was founded by Leanne Lyons following the loss of her husband David in December 2018 after his battle with mental health. Experiencing first-hand the devastating impact mental health struggles can have within the industry, Leanne established Breaker Breaker with a clear purpose: to make sure that drivers and those working across the transport sector know they are not alone and that support is available.
The haulage industry plays a vital role in keeping the economy moving, but it is also an industry that can bring significant pressures. Long hours, demanding schedules, financial worries and the isolation that can come with life on the road can all take a serious toll on mental health. Too often these struggles remain hidden, and many drivers feel they have nowhere to turn or no one who understands the pressures of the job.
Breaker Breaker is working to change that.
Through awareness campaigns, industry engagement and partnerships across the transport sector, the charity encourages open conversations around mental health and promotes the importance of looking after wellbeing in an industry that keeps the country moving.
A key part of this work is the Haulage Helpline, delivered in partnership with Inspire Wellbeing. This confidential service provides professional support for people working across the road transport industry who may be struggling or simply need someone to talk to. The helpline ensures that those in the industry have access to help when they need it most.
Breaker Breaker also engages directly with drivers and companies through industry events, transport hubs and community initiatives, helping to raise awareness and connect people with support.
Being the charity partner for RTX Northern Ireland 2026 provides an important opportunity to continue this mission. The event brings together drivers, operators, suppliers and industry leaders from across the sector, creating a platform to highlight the importance of mental health and wellbeing in transport.
