Award-winning County Tyrone trailer manufacturer bmi has expanded its service network in Ireland with the signing of a strategic agreement with OKM Trailers, based at Newhall, Naas in County Kildare.

With sales and service partners located in many locations throughout Europe and now in the Republic of Ireland, bmi trailers prides itself on helping clients move more quickly through its design and manufacturing processes which has allowed the Dungannon company to become one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of bespoke Ejector, Tipping and Walking floor trailers.

OKM Trailers, which has become one of bmi’s strategic service network partners was established in 1982 and has continued to develop and expand. “OKM Trailers is a customer driven company and take pride in their ability to always meet and satisfy their customers’ requirements through the combination of a highly motivated and experienced workforce coupled with modern technology and a commitment to quality. All their work is carried out to EU specifications, by Certified Coded Welders who are supported by a team of people all trained to the highest standards,” said Brendan McIlvanna, Founder, Owner & Managing Director at bmi trailers ltd.

Since its formation in 1999, bmi trailers is the longest established manufacturer in Europe of bulk waste transfer trailers including waste ejector, tipping trailers and walking floor trailers. For over 20 years, bmi trailers has designed, manufactured and commissioned high spec trailers, leading the way with innovative new designs on trailers, sheeting systems and waste compaction vehicle equipment and its dedicated team constantly progress with new products, new markets, new partners and new successes.

One of its new developments is its Intelligent Trailer Technology project. Brenadan explained: “At bmi trailers one of the key factors of our success is our continual investment in innovation and a willingness to embrace new technologies. The move towards electric autonomous vehicles is changing the truck and car industries. With the new technologies available the trailer industry will soon follow the same path. Using the latest developments in telematics and IoT, bmi trailers has produced the first SMART trailer. The trailer collects information from the brake system ECU and a range of digital sensors to monitor and record all the critical data relevant to the trailers performance. The telematics system collects data on such items as: Location (GPS global tracker), Payload Speed Driver performance, Roll stability activation, ABS activation, Tyre pressure Brake pad wear, Brake fault warning, Total miles Hydraulic pressure and Hydraulic flow rate.”

“Using this information, a range of reports and early warning systems can be developed. Using these tools drivers and transport managers can ensure their trailer is safe and operating efficiently. The trailer telematics allows information to be provided in real time to smart phones, tablets and through and internet portal. In partnership with some of our local customer base the prototype trailer is being tested with a range of tractor units, in different environments, moving a range of materials.”

Look out for this trailer on the road, it’s the bmi 125yrd moving floor trailer, with 7mm extreme durable cargo floor, bmi Powercover, Heavy duty SAF axles with auto tyre inflation system, Powered retractable bulkhead, Full length domex chassis, and High grade steel top-rails,” Brendan advised.
