A new Renault Trucks C 6×4 rigid truck fitted with Hiab crane & Prime Mover, fuelled by HVO has replaced two older vehicles, a 1993 Diesel Prime Mover HGV and a 1997 Diesel Hiab Flatbed HGV. This new combined vehicle will be used to carry and transport the South-Eastern regional Major Emergency Management Pod serving Counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford.
The pod contains the On-Site Coordination tent and supporting equipment to provide the three principal response agencies their location to coordinate the management of a Major Emergency. This pod is deployed using a Prime Mover hydraulic hook arm mounted on the rear of the vehicle cab. The vehicle is also equipped with a hydraulic Hiab crane and carries a Flat Bed via the Prime Mover hydraulic hook arm for logistical support of the Hacketstown Training & Development Centre transporting materials for use in the training centre e.g. timber pallets and end of life vehicles for training.
The second vehicle launched is a Renault Master E-Tech Electric Van, 100%, the first 100% zero-emission commercial vehicle to join Carlow County Fire & Rescue Service’s fleet and will be used as logistical support for the Hacketstown Training & Development centre transporting materials to support the training centre activity.
The official handover of the keys were presented by Alfie Barker, Setanta Vehicle Importers Ltd (Renault Trucks)and Sandra O’Reilly (HPMP) to Carlow County Council Cathaoirleach Ken Murnane.
