Culina Group buys Fowler Welch


Dart Group plc, the Leeds headquartered Leisure Travel and Distribution & Logistics group, has completed the sale of its Distribution and Logistics business, Fowler Welch to the Culina Group Limited for a £98 million.

Fowler Welch, based at Spalding, Lincolnshire, is one of the UK’s leading providers of food supply-chain services and serves retailers, processors, growers and importers through its distribution network. In addition, the business has a 50% share in a joint venture fruit ripening and packing business, Integrated Service Solutions, located at its Teynham facility. At 31 March 2020, Fowler Welch had unaudited net assets of £60.5 million.

Following the sale the Dart Group is to focus on its long-term strategy of growing its Leisure Travel business and will enable Fowler Welch to continue to flourish and grow profitably under new ownership.

Its extensive network of sites provides a comprehensive food and drink supply chain management service covering the whole of the UK and Ireland. With 8 million square feet of warehousing spread across 65 depots, it employs 9,000 people to ensure that over 2.2 million deliveries reach the correct location. With more than 1,750 vehicles (3,000+ trailers) there is always space for another shipment. It delivers cost-effective state-of-the-art warehousing solutions, GPS shipment tracking and 25 years of experience to its customers.

With a varied portfolio of sites including chilled and ambient storage as well as contract packing facilities and is well-placed to meet all logistics needs.
