Last month, I was pleased to attend the official launch of the new National Enterprise Hub. This new Government of Ireland initiative brings together information and resources from over 180 Government supports and includes a range of Fáilte Ireland business supports. As SMEs are vital to our economy, it’s important they are offered as much support as possible to help them succeed in the current climate. This Hub is sure to be a valuable resource to many businesses.
August was be a busy month as festival season was in full swing. Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann and Kilkenny Animated both took place this and we saw the return of Dublin Horse Show and the Rose of Tralee festival also in August. Festivals are key economic drivers and help showcase the very best of what each region has to offer.
Since my last update, we announced our first round of investment grants from the EU Just Transition Fund for the Regenerative Tourism & Placemaking Scheme 2023-2026. Over €32million in investment grants announced for regenerative tourism projects in Midlands, which include trails on former industrial peatlands and tourism initiatives by Local Authorities and State Agencies. Evaluations are ongoing under the Scheme, but I would strongly encourage anyone who has received an eligible outcome on their EOI to submit an application as soon as possible.
Last week, Minister for Tourism, Catherine Martin, T.D. and Minister for the Economy of Northern Ireland, Conor Murphy MLA, announced a new capital investment funding call from Fáilte Ireland, Tourism Northern Ireland and Tourism Ireland. The Coast-to-Coast Investment Scheme will enhance interpretation at existing operating visitor attractions and experiences along the north of the Wild Atlantic Way and along the Causeway Coastal Route.
We celebrated our ancient built and cultural heritage through National Heritage Week. It took place from 17-25 August, this year’s exciting programme of events offered a memorable cultural experiences for domestic and international visitors and locals across the country.
