Natural Gas & Dual-fuel powered vehicles not permitted on Eurotunnel

Notification from Le Shuttle/Eurotunnel to remind international road transport operators that vehicles powered by CNG, LNG or any equivalent flammable gas or dual powered vehicles are not permitted to travel on Eurotunnel Truck Shuttles at this time.

Following the recent study which has been conducted to assess the feasibility of carrying these types of vehicles on  Truck Shuttles in the future, the company is now awaiting agreement from the Governments safety authorities.

Vehicle dimensions

To ensure that the vehicle can travel on truck shuttles, please find below the maximum size and weight of vehicles carried:

Please note that for safety reasons, campervans are not authorised to travel on truck shuttles.

Flammable gas tank

Vehicles can be powered by different types of flammable gas, for example:

  • LNG – liquified natural gas (methane)
  • CNG – compressed natural gas (methane)
  • LPG – liquified petroleum gas

Flammable gas powered vehicles (i.e. vehicles fitted with flammable gas tanks as an alternative fuel) and dual powered vehicles (i.e. flammable gas and other fuels) cannot be accepted for transport by Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, even though:

  •  the flammable gas tank is empty,
  •  the flammable gas mode of the vehicle is not selected.
