Relaxation of driving and rest times rules ends in Ireland & EU

6266

Transport operators and drivers of trucks and buses should be aware that the temporary relaxation of driving regulations agreed for the initial part of the COVID-19 crisis has come to an end in Ireland and across the European Union.

Following the European Commission’s indication that it will not authorise any further derogations on the driving and rest time rules contained in EU Regulation 561/2006, it is confirmed that all Member States will be reverting to normal rules as of from Monday morning, 1st June.

The Commission reached this decision on the basis it believes that those carrying out road transport have now had sufficient time to adapt to the current circumstances in the context of COVID-19 and to plan transport operations accordingly.
