From 1 February 2021, tyres aged over 10 years on the front steered axles of trucks, buses and coaches along with all single wheels of minibuses (9-16 passengers seats) are banned by the UK authorities.
The new legislation shall be enforced at roadside checks along with vehicle annual tests.
Updated sanctions policy
The enforcement sanctions have been revised to reflect the new offences, which includes affected tyres over 10 years old and not having a date marking that is clearly legible.
– £100 fixed penalty
– Endorsable points on the driver’s licence
– A possible prosecution for more than 1 endorsable offence
There is also an update to the categorisation of defects document and annual test inspection manuals for passenger service vehicles and heavy goods vehicles to reflect the changes.
