Update from Paul Kelly, CEO of Fáilte Ireland

Since the last update from Fáilte Ireland, Ireland welcomed thousands of visitors to locations across the country with an exciting programme of events for St Patrick’s Festival Dublin and all around the country.

“Dublin and six regional St Patrick’s Day celebrations took place in Cork, Killarney, Limerick, Waterford, Sligo, and Kilkenny. Followed by the Easter bank holiday, I hope you have had a busy and prosperous start to the traditional tourism season.

Last week, we launched a new five-year plan that will help drive and sustain tourism in Co. Sligo. The Sligo Destination and Experience Development Plan (DEDP) builds on the ambition of the Wild Atlantic Way Regional Tourism Development Strategy to position Sligo as a catalyst destination for regional tourism development and transform how visitors engage with the northern half of the Wild Atlantic Way. Next week, Fáilte Ireland will host its annual Meitheal trade show in Gleneagle INEC Arena, Killarney, in conjunction with Tourism Ireland. For a small island, we have a huge amount to offer including world-class scenery, hospitality, activities, attractions, culture, heritage, and food and it will be fantastic to see so many of you coming together to trade with international buyers. We will also be marking the 10th anniversary of the Wild Atlantic  Way at the event, celebrating the regional experience brand that heralded a new era for Irish tourism.

The demand for our newly launched Climate Action Programme has been phenomenally high, showing the commitment of tourism businesses to reducing their carbon footprint. Read the Climate Action Programme prospectus to find out more.

Finally, this month will also see the return of Fáilte Ireland’s Employer Excellence Awards. The 2024 ceremony will take place in Lyrath Estate, Co. Kilkenny, as we honour businesses who have demonstrated their commitment to making the tourism industry an appealing and rewarding place to work.
