Resulting from Volkswagen Group Ireland and Volkswagen Financial Services Ireland encouraging their employees to engage in their corporate social responsibility by selecting an Irish charity to support each year, collectively they have contributed €17,500 to the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.

Termed “Volkswagen4Good”, and for 2021, Volkswagen employees selected the Alzheimer Society of Ireland as their charity of the year and in May they kicked off their efforts with a virtual tea morning. During this online event, Alan Bateson, who heads up VWCV and Board member responsible for CSR presented the charity with a cheque for €10,000. This was followed by a virtual auction which, along with donations from employees, raised another €7,500 bringing the total on the day to €17,500.

Commenting on the initiative, Alan Bateson, said: “We are thrilled to be working with the Alzheimer Society of Ireland as a charity partner, providing much needed care, respite, and information services for people living with dementia. All the team at Volkswagen Group Ireland and Volkswagen Financial Services Ireland are excited by the opportunity to raise vital funds whilst having a lot of fun for this fantastic charity which was clearly evident at our virtual tea morning.”

Ciara O’Reilly from the Alzheimer Society of Ireland added, “ On behalf of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, I would like to say a huge thank you to Volkswagen Group Ireland and Volkswagen Financial Services Ireland. The €17,500 the team worked so hard to raise through donations and in an online Alzheimer’s Tea Day auction during very difficult times will be used to fund vital supports and services in the community and to ensure those living with dementia, along with their families, get the support they need. We are heavily reliant on donations to provide our services, so we are very grateful to everyone at Volkswagen Group Ireland and Volkswagen Financial Services Ireland for all of their support.”
