Double-tops for DAF Trucks on winning two major prizes at the Fleet Transport Fleet Transport Irish Truck of the Year 2024 Awards, sponsored by AIB Finance & Leasing, presented at the Johnstown Estate Hotel, Enfield, County Meath on Thursday 9 November.
The New Generation DAF XG+ won the Flagship Tractor-unit category, with the recently launched XD 6×2 rigid picking up the Distribution (heavy-duty) category. In the medium duty section, the MAN TGM 4×2 rigid was honoured.
A growing number of nominations were received for the Fleet Transport Green Commercial Awards 2024, in association with ePower, with a wide selection of vans and trucks entered. The new FUSO eCanter, made in Portugal, collected the Electric Light Truck trophy with the Mercedes-Benz eActros 300/400 4×2 rigid impressing the expert judging panel in the Medium Duty Electric truck category, while the Volvo eFH 4×2 was honoured as the Heavy-Duty Tractor-unit winner.
Two main titles were up for grabs in the Electric Van classes. Ford Pro’s new E-Transit received the majority of marks in the Large Electric Van segment, with the new Renault Kangoo E-Tech deemed best Small/Medium Electric Van.
In congratulating the various prize winners, Jarlath Sweeney, Group Editor, Fleet Transport, thanked all of the manufacturers, distributors and brand representatives for preparing and presenting the commercial vehicles for the assessment days. “What was demonstrated here is a showcase for the automotive industry form the business end. With twenty commercials in the ‘Green’ segments, the most ever in the contest to date, indicating where transport is heading and that zero-emission technology is here and now,” he said. Two other related awards were presented: Dennison Trailers won the Trailer Innovation Award 2024 with its new Sliding Bogie Split Trailer, while Renault Trucks were pleased to receive the Truck Innovation title with its new Renault Trucks D Wide E-Tech 6×2 low entry cab with bus-style folding door and low step height. Both Awards were sponsored from FTA Ireland, with Aidan Flynn CEO presenting both awards.
